What is a “Harbinger”?

Online Dictionaries define it as follows:
An indication:
An augury, forerunner, foretoken, herald, messenger, omen, portent, precursor, sign, signal;
a harbinger  is an indication of the approach of something or someone; a messenger  is a person      who carries a communications or performs an errand; an omen  is a sign of something about to
 happen

“The Harbinger” is also the title of a book by Jonathan Cahn, a noted Bible scholar and Messianic  Jew.
Not a dry recitation of ancient history, this book is a page turner, written in the style of a suspense “parable” joining the ancient past with our modern world, illustrating the parallels between events in the middle east during the 7th century BC, and 21st century America. EVERYTHING is scrupulously documented with a list of searchable sources for each footnote.

What’s it about?  Well, that’s complicated.  It’s a revelation of a Biblical prophecy—an instance of history repeating itself—on 9/11/2001. What was repeated was an event indicating God’s extreme displeasure with a nation that had turned it’s back on Him. The Old Testament notes that the first harbinger—or warning-- was in 732 BC, when God removed his protection from the people of Israel, allowing the Assyrians to attack them.  Their nation, as ours was on 9/11, suffered massive death and destruction leaving both nations traumatized.   The people of Israel, as the people of the US thought they were so well protected by their strength and ingenuity, that they’d forgotten that no nation can be safe without God.

Did the people of Israel learn their lesson? Did we?  Apparently  not.  Neither  they, as a nation, nor we, as a nation turned back to God.  This one can easily see by merely turning on the television or picking up a newspaper anywhere in the US.

Who were the Assyrians? An ancient people whose capitol city was Nineveh in a country known today  as Iraq.  The Assyrians weren’t your garden-variety burning-looting-pillaging tribe of Central Asia. Nope--they had a specialty that separated them from other warrior tribes of the day. Their specialty  was terror. They understood the importance of doing more than simply killing their enemies. They knew they had to make an impression.

The people of Israel responded to the attack with a determination borne of hubris. They defiantly promised to respond in exactly the same way as the US did in the aftermath of 9/11. The same exact words, the same exact actions.

Things just got worse. For the people of Israel , as well as the people of the US. In exactly the same way.

Eventually, the people of Israel were forced out of the land God had given to them. Is this to be our fate, as well?

You can’t afford NOT to read this spellbinding book!
